என்ற கனவுடன் நுழைந்தேன்
கல்லூரிக்குள்...!

முதல் நாள் இங்கே உட்காரு என்று சொல்லி
முதல் நட்பு கிடைக்க, நாளடைவில்
எனக்கில்லா நண்பர் கூட்டம் இல்லை
இந்த கல்லுரியில்...!

நண்பனின் நண்பன் எனக்கும் நண்பன்
என்று எங்கோ கஷ்டப்படும் நண்பனின்
கவலையைப் போக்க போராடியும்,
என் நண்பன் வீட்டு விசேசங்களுக்கு சென்று
அவர்களின் வீட்டுப் பிள்ளைதான் நாங்களும்
என்று கவனித்த அவர்களின் பாசத்தையும்
இன்றும் எங்களது நெஞ்சம் மறக்கவில்லை...!

என் முகம் வாடிக்கிடக்க,
நான் இருக்கிறேன் உனக்காக
என்ற குரல் ஒன்று போதும்
என் முகம் மலர...!

தினம் தினம் நமது கால்கள்
ஒன்றின்பின் ஒன்றாக நடக்கவே
இன்பம், துன்பம் அனைத்தையும்
பகிர்ந்தபடியே மெல்ல சென்றது
கல்லூரி கால நாட்கள்...!

இன்று கல்லூரி படிப்பு முடிந்தாலும்
நம் நட்புக்கு முடிவு
என்பதே இல்லை என்றும்...!

இரவு 11 மணி சாலையில் ஓர் வாடகை டாக்ஸி வேகமாகச் சென்று கொண்டிருந்தது. ஒரு நடுத்தர வயதுப் பெண்மணி, டாக்ஸி என கையசைத்து நிறுத்தினார்.

"தம்பி ஆஸ்பத்திரி போகனும்"

"நான் சாப்பிட்டுட்டு, படுக்கப் போற நேரம்"

"என் மகளுக்கு பிரசவ நேரம்ப்பா, தயவுசெய்து வரமாட்டேன்னு சொல்லிடாதேப்பா" என்றார் அப்பெண்மணி.

"நீங்க இவ்வளவு சொல்றதாலே வர்றேன். 500 ரூபா ஆகும்" என்றான் அந்த டாக்ஸி ஓட்டும் இளைஞன்.

அப்பெண்மணி 500 ரூபா என்ன 1000 ரூபாய் கேட்டால் கூட தர சம்மதம் என்பதுபோல் வேகவேகமாக தலையாட்டி சம்மதிக்க, டாக்ஸி அவர்களுடன் மருத்துவமனைக்கு விரைந்தது.

டாக்ஸி ரெயில்வே கேட்டை நெருங்கவும், எச்சரிக்கை மணி ஒலிக்க கேட் மூடப்பட்டது. அக்கர்ப்பிணியின் முனகல் சற்று அலறலாக மாறியது. நல்ல வேளை அந்த நேரத்தில் அங்கு யாரும் இல்லை. இரண்டு ரயில் வண்டிகள் எதிர் எதிர் திசையில் கடக்க, பத்து நிமிடத்தில் கேட் திறந்தது.

இப்போது டாக்ஸி இன்னும் சற்று வேகமாக ஓடி மருத்துவமனையில் நின்றது. நடுநிசியின் நிசப்தத்தைக் கிழித்தது அப்பிரசவத் தாயின் அலறல். மூடிய விழிகளில் நீர் மல்க, அந்த நடுத்தர வயதுப் பெண்மணி கைகளைக் கூப்பி மகளுக்காக இறைவனிடம் வேண்டினாள்.

அந்த டாக்ஸி இளைஞனும் அமைதியாக அங்கே நின்றிருந்தான்.

சற்று நேரத்தில் சுகப் பிரசவம்.

"தம்பி! ரொம்ப நன்றிப்பா. இந்தா நீ கேட்ட பணம்" என பணத்தை நீட்டினாள் அப்பெண்மணி.

"வேணாம்மா. எங்கம்மா என்னைப் பெற எவ்வளவு வேதனைப் பட்டிருப்பாங்கன்னு இறைவன் எனக்கு புரிய வச்சிட்டார்.
பணத்தை நீங்களே வைங்க" என்று சொன்னபடி நடக்க
ஆரம்பித்தான்.

ஏதோ யோசிக்க மொபைலை எடுத்து ஒரு நம்பரை கண்டுபிடித்து டயல் பண்ணினான்.

"ஹலோ முதியோர் இல்லமா?"

"ஆமா என்ன இந்த நேரத்துல போன் பண்ணுறீங்க?"

"மன்னிக்கவும். நாளு நாளைக்கி முன்னாடி அனாதைன்னு சொல்லி ஒருத்தவங்கள உங்க இல்லத்துல சேர்த்தேன்.. இல்லையா? அவுங்க அனாதை இல்லை என்ன பெத்த தாய். நாளைக்கு காலையிலே வர்றேன் அவுங்கள கூட்டிட்டு போக"

முதியோர் இல்ல பொறுப்பளரின் அனுமதியைக் கூட கேட்காமல் மொபைலை கட் பண்ணி விட்டு வண்டியை தீர்க்கமான முடிவோடு ஸ்டார்ட் செய்தார் .

'ஆம். நிஜத்தை தரிசிக்கும் ஒவ்வொரு இதயமும்... ஒரு மனிதனைப் பிரசவிக்கிறது'.

பாலைவனத்தில் பயணம் செய்து கொண்டிருந்த ஒருவன் குடிக்கத் தண்ணீர் இல்லாமல் மயங்கி விழும்

நிலைக்கு வந்து விட்டான். தாகத்தால் உயிர் போய்விடுமோ என்று நினைத்த போது தூரத்தில் ஒரு குடிசை போல ஏதோ ஒன்று தெரிந்தது.

மிகவும் கஷ்டப்பட்டு அவன் அந்த இடத்திற்கு சென்று விட்டான். அங்கே ஒரு கையால் அடித்து இயக்கும் பம்ப்பும், அதன் அருகில் ஒரு ஜக்கில் தண்ணீரும்
இருந்தன.

ஒரு அட்டையில் யாரோ எழுதி வைத்திருந்தார்கள். "ஜக்கில் உள்ள தண்ணீரை அந்தப் பம்ப் செட்டில் ஊற்றி அடித்தால் தண்ணீர் வரும். குடித்து விட்டு மறுபடியும் ஜக்கில் தண்ணீரை நிரப்பி வைத்து விட்டுச்
செல்லவும்."...

அந்தப் பம்ப்போ மிகவும் பழையதாக இருந்தது. அது இயங்குமா, தண்ணீர் வருமா என்பது சந்தேகமாக இருந்தது. அது இயங்கா விட்டால் அந்தத் தண்ணீர் வீணாகி விடும். அதற்குப் பதிலாக அந்தத் தண்ணீரைக் குடித்து விட்டால் தாகமும் தணியும், உயிர் பிழைப்பதற்கு உத்திரவாதமும் உள்ளது. அவன் யோசித்தான். தண்ணீரைக் குடித்து விடுவதே புத்திசாலித்தனம் என்று அறிவு கூறியது.

ஒரு வேளை அதில் எழுதி வைத்திருப்பது போல் அந்தப் பம்பு இயங்குவதாக இருந்து அது இயங்கத் தேவையான அந்தத் தண்ணீரைக் குடித்து விட்டால், இனி தன்னைப்
போலத் தாகத்தோடு வருபவர்களுக்கு அது பயன்படாமல் போகத் தானே காரணமாகி விடுவோம் என்று மனசாட்சி எச்சரித்தது.

அவன் அதற்கு மேல் யோசிக்கவில்லை.
ஆனது ஆகட்டும் என்று அந்தப் பம்பில் அந்தத்
தண்ணீரை ஊற்றி விட்டு அதை அடித்து இயக்க
ஆரம்பித்தான். தண்ணீர் வர ஆரம்பித்தது.
தாகம் தீர, வேண்டிய அளவு தண்ணீர் குடித்து விட்டு அந்த ஜக்கில் நீரையும் நிரப்பி விட்டுச் செல்கையில் அவன் மனமும் நிறைந்திருந்தது.

நாம் அவசியமான காலத்தில் அனுபவிப்பதை அடுத்தவருக்கும் அதே போல பயன்படும்படி விட்டுப் போக வேண்டும். எந்த நன்மையும் நம்முடன் நின்று
விடலாகாது.

இந்தக் காலக் கட்டத்தில் பெரும்பாலான மனிதர்களிடம் அந்த நல்லெண்ணம் இருப்பதில்லை. நம் வேலை ஆனால் சரி, அடுத்தவர் எக்கேடு கெட்டால் நமக்கென்ன என்ற அலட்சியம் பலரிடமும் மேலோங்கி உள்ளது.

"யான் பெற்ற இன்பம் பெறுக இவ்வையகம்" என்ற மனநிலையில் ஒவ்வொருவரும் இருந்தால் இந்த உலகம்
இன்பமயமாகி விடுமல்லவா?

இனிய இறந்தகால பக்கங்களின் மனிதர்களும் மகிழ்வுகளும் நிகழ்வுகளும் நட்புகளும் நானும் பொய்யன்று

இந்த நிகழ்காலத்தில் தொடரும் மாறா நினைவுகளும் பிரிவுகளும் மாற்றங்களின் தேவைகளும் பொய்யன்று

1. Design of a 4-20mA transmitter for a bridge type transducer.

Design the Instrumentation amplifier with the bridge type transducer (Thermistor or any

resistance variation transducers) and convert the amplified voltage from the instrumentation

amplifier to 4 – 20 mA current using op-amp. Plot the variation of the temperature Vs output

current.

2. Design of AC/DC voltage regulator using SCR

Design a phase controlled voltage regulator using full wave rectifier and SCR, vary the

conduction angle and plot the output voltage.

3. Design of process control timer

Design a sequential timer to switch on & off at least 3 relays in a particular sequence using

timer IC.

4. Design of AM / FM modulator / demodulator

i. Design AM signal using multiplier IC for the given carrier frequency and modulation index

and demodulate the AM signal using envelope detector. ii. Design FM signal using VCO IC

NE566 for the given carrier frequency and demodulate the same using PLL NE 565.

5. Design of Wireless data modem.

Design a FSK modulator using 555/XR 2206 and convert it to sine wave using

filter and transmit the same using IR LED and demodulate the same PLL NE

565/XR 2212. PCB layout design using CAD

6. Drawing the schematic of simple electronic circuit and design of PCB layout using CAD

7. Microcontroller based systems design

Design of microcontroller based system for simple applications like security systems

combination lock.

8. DSP based system design

OBJECTIVES

�� To equip the learners face the linguistic demands of post-degree entrance

examinations

�� To improve the IV level active vocabulary

�� To reactivate and reinforce the language functions introduced in earlier papers

�� To help the learner infer message from non-verbal cues and speak fluently on them

�� To help the learners inculcate the micro skills of debating on a subject

�� To motivate the learners read English dailies and react critically to news items

�� To help the learners acquire the skills related to organization of thoughts while

writing articles.

COURSE CONTENT

A) Target words (20 hrs)

((Words D+ to Z from Barron’s GRE Test)

B) Writing articles on media-based themes (10 hrs)

C) Debate (8 hrs)

D) Channel conversion (Speaking on Non-Verbal representations) (7 hrs)

RECORD LAY OUT

Every student has to maintain record in which he/she has to incorporate the following

details.

Part I: Use of Vocabulary

�� 10 assignments (each 20 words) using the target words in sentences of their own.

�� Separate word lists to be allotted to students so that all the words in the target

vocabulary are covered.

�� Assignments to be written in the record notebook only after the approval of the

professor in charge.

Part II: Article based on newspaper reading

�� One article (750 words) based on any theme emerging out of the news items.

(According to the methodology suggested)

�� It should be written only on the odd pages.

�� News items (at least 5) should be collected from English dailies and pasted on the

even pages.

Part III: Internal Question Papers on Target Vocabulary Testing & Coding sheets

�� Six Question papers to be pasted ( 2 for synonyms, 2 for antonyms and 2 for

sentence completion)

�� The corrected coding sheets (6) to be pasted.

The record should be duly signed by the Course Teacher and submitted to the External

Examiner for verification during the semester practical.

MODE OF EVALUATION

Internal Assessment (20 marks) (10 marks for the Record and 10 marks for the six tests

on Target Vocabulary)

External Assessment (100 marks-to be converted to 80 marks)

The external practical * will consist of two segments (a) Written Test and (b) Testing

Speaking

Written Test (1 hr)

a) Testing Target Vocabulary (40 objective type items – 15 synonyms, 15 antonyms

and 10 sentence completion) (40 marks)

b) Writing articles on the theme emerging from the given newspaper, items given (5

newspaper items based on a single theme will be given) (20 marks)

Testing Speaking (3 + 3 minutes)

a) Debate (Each student will be required to speak for three minutes for or against a

given topic) (20 marks)

b) Speaking on the given diagram / chart / table (20 marks)

(*Every learner will be assessed with a different set of question which he / she will

choose a random)
